Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, has a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. The average temperature in summer is 26 degrees Celsius (79 degrees Fahrenheit), whilst in winter it drops to around the freezing point. Snow is not uncommon in winter, especially in the mountains. Pristina can be quite humid at times, particularly in summer.
Despite its location in the Balkans, Pristina actually enjoys a relatively mild climate thanks to its elevation of 550 meters (1,800 feet) above sea level. This keeps temperatures from becoming too extreme. Although it does mean that winters can be chilly and summers can be quite hot. Spring and autumn are generally pleasant, with moderate temperatures and occasional showers.
Spring
Spring in Pristina is lovely, with the city coming to life after a long winter. The average temperature in March is 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit), although it can still feel quite cold in the early mornings and evenings. April is slightly warmer, with an average temperature of 13 degrees Celsius (55 degrees Fahrenheit). May is the warmest month before summer really begins, with an average temperature of 17 degrees Celsius (63 degrees Fahrenheit).
Summer
Summer is the busiest time of year in Pristina, as people come to enjoy the warm weather and long days. The average temperature in June is 21 degrees Celsius (70 degrees Fahrenheit), rising to 26 degrees Celsius (79 degrees Fahrenheit) in July and August. These are the hottest months of the year. So be sure to stay hydrated and take occasional breaks in the shade if you’re out and about.
Autumn
Autumn is a beautiful time of year in Pristina, as the leaves of the trees change colour and the weather cools down. The average temperature in September is 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit). Falling to 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit) in October and 11 degrees Celsius (52 degrees Fahrenheit) in November. December is the start of winter, with an average temperature of 7 degrees Celsius (45 degrees Fahrenheit).
Winter
Winter can be cold in Pristina, with temperatures often dropping below freezing point. The average temperature in January is 3 degrees Celsius (37 degrees Fahrenheit), rising to 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) in February. These are the coldest months of the year, so make sure you wrap up warm if you’re heading outdoors!
